Fitting Through the Needle

Fitting Through the Needle

In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives us a vivid image: it’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. This powerful message invites us to think about what it really takes to be ready for God’s Kingdom.

To fit through the needle’s eye, we first need to let go of what’s holding us back. It’s not just about wealth; it’s also about anything that ties us down – like pride, selfishness, or grudges. These things can weigh us down and make it hard to follow the narrow path that leads to life.

Living simply is another way to prepare ourselves. When we simplify our lives, we make space for what really matters: our relationship with God and with others. Without the constant need for more, we’re able to give more freely—to share our time, talents, and resources with those who need them. This kind of generosity helps us to let go of temporary things and focus on what lasts forever.

Trusting God is also crucial. Like a child trusts their parent, we need to trust that God will guide and care for us. This trust helps us to live with peace and joy, without worrying so much about the future.

Finally, humility is key. A humble heart knows that it needs God and is willing to be shaped by Him. It’s not about having everything figured out but about being open to God’s guidance and transformation.

As we work on fitting ourselves through the needle’s eye, we don’t need to be perfect. What matters is the direction of our hearts. With God’s help, we can let go of what holds us back, live simply and generously, trust in Him, and walk humbly towards the life He has prepared for us.
